As many of you know one of the Sierra Nevada's most famous residents is the Black Bear. These animals are very curious creatures and also always hungry! So, in the late spring and early summer the bears are ready to eat. One of their favorite things is fruit. This also is the time our stone fruit trees are producing their sweet treats. The bears want to get to the fruit and the only way they know how to will also destroy the tree. The bears don't pull one piece of fruit at a time, they will tear a whole tree up, branch by branch.
Most of the fruit will ripen around the same time and we don't want anything to go to waste. This is how My Bear Candy came about. When the fruit is ripe it is all picked, some is sold at the Farmers Market. Some is sold to restaurants and what is left is made into My Bear Candy!
It is a very time consuming process. Each piece of fruit is washed and then hand sliced by our My Bear Candy team. Then it is placed out in the warm California sun to dry. Each evening it must be moved inside so no moisture can delay the drying process. Then the next morning it's brought back out for more sunshine. This drying process can take several days. Everyday our My Bear Candy team walks up and down the drying trays looking for that perfectly dryed piece of wonderful fruit. Then all the drying pieces are packaged in bags to be enjoyed. This tart and sweet treat is a wonderful snack. Also, remember it is 100% Certified Organic just like everything Flora Bella produces.
